The aim of this video cassette, which is the first in a series devoted to describing
the main turning operations on the horinzotal lathe, is to present the machine
lay-out, the various controls, and the tool and workpiece clamping and positioning
systems.
In particular, the following items are analyzed;
the control board;
the speed-change gears and spindle revs selection systems;
the feed gears and feedrate selection;
the longitudinal and cross-slide travel drive elements;
the graduated drums for the longitudinal feed of the bottom slide, top slide,
cross-slide and tailstock saddle;
the leadscrew drive controls; gears setting for threading operations;
tilting of top slide for manual-feed taper turning operations.
In addition, the unit presents the varioous workpiece clamping systems together
with the related assembly, use and maintenance systems, and the systems used for
tool clamping on the turret or tailstock. Lastly, the unit tackles the subject
of coolant, mentioning a number of standard practices for accident prevention.
