The video cassette presents a teaching unit on elementary drilling operations on the lathe. The program begins by defining the function of the lathe drilling (rough drilling of hollow cylindrical surfaces) and by presenting what are even today still the most commonly used tools for lathe drilling operations: centre drills and twist drills.
After describing the main methods used for clamping workpieces and tools on the machine, the film shows the practical execution of two distinct drilling operations; the drilling of a through-hole and the drilling of a blind hole.
The demostrations are preceded by graphic animations designed to give trainees a rational grasp of these operations.
During the execution of the drilling operations, attention is drawn to the most important points wich trainees will have to refer to when they themselves are called upon to perform these operations on the lathe.
The program concludes with a summary of the machining operations analyzed.
