The video cassette presents the basic taper turning operation, performed by tilting the top slide and moving the tool by means of the handwheel on the slide.
After an initial sequence devoted to defining the operation, to presenting the tools and their characteristic movements, to the mounting of the workpiece on the machine, and to the methods currently used for performing taper turning operations, the film presents the execution of the external and internal taper turning of two workpieces which are to be coupled one to the other.
The film also illustrates the taper ratio testing sistem, using conical plus gauges.
The animations not only present a summary of the basic machining operations, but also briefly draw attention to a number of mathematical relationship between the various systems used for indicating taper ratios on technical drawings: 1/K; P%; aor a/2.
There is, however, no discussion of the respective merits of the formulae, as thislies beyond the scope of this type of audiovisual aid, the video cassette.
The unit concludes with a summary of the most significant machining operations in the execution of external and internal taper turning.
