The video cassette presents the basic operation of face milling on prismatic
workpieces. The unit begins with a brief description of the operation and its
aism: the creation of flat surfaces on prismatic workpieces which are to serve
as support or reference surfaces. The tools most commonly used in this operation
are then described: face milling cutters and, in certain cases, slab milling
cutters.
Effective graphic animations are then used to illustrate the workpiece-tool
movements which enable flat surfaces to be generated.
Among the various workpiece clamping systems, the unit briefly describes those
using vices and clamping by means of tierod clamps and push rods.
The video cassette then presents an actual demonstration of the face milling
operations following a step by step teaching exercise in which all the initial
theoretical notions are applied in practice.
The video unit concludes with a final summary reminding trainees of all the
most important steps in the machining operation performed.
