The video cassette presents the theoretical and practical aspects of the execution of face milling operations designed to obtain the parallel and perpendicular surfaces of prismatic blocks. After introducing trainees to the aims of this type of machining, the unit presents a number of significant examples in which the workpiece has to be squared before going on to the other milling, drilling or boring operations.
The cutters mainly used in squaring operations are face milling cutters. Graphic animations illustrate the tool-
workpiece movements and the sequence of operations required for obtaining perfectly parallel squared surfaces. Using vices as the clamping system, the unit analyzes in practical terms all the various machine set-up and milling operations the operator must perform in the complete facing and squaring of the six faces of a prismatic block. The practical demonstrations are interspersed with frequent theoretical inserts on work methods in the form of graphic animations.
The video unit concludes with a final summary reviewing the most important steps in the machining operations analyzed.
