The video cassette presents:
a) the face milling of vertical flat surfaces, without any geometrical
reference to other surfaces, by means of face milling cutters set with their axes
perpendicular or parallel to the machined surface;
b) the face milling of flat surfaces tilted at any angle by means of
a face milling cutter set with its axis perpendicular or parallel to the machined
surface, or by means of a form or profile cutter.
After defining the machining operation and describing the purpose the generated
surface is to serve, the video unit presents the most commonly used tools: face
milling cutters, disk-tape side milling cutters and form or profile cutters.
The unit then presents a number of workpiece positioning operations in relation
to the milling cutter and the movements needed in order to generate the desired
surface.
The unit continues with the execution of machining operations on two sample workpieces
deliberately chosen for training purpose in such a way that the trainee can visualize
in practical terms and understand the machining techniques and work methods which
the operator has to adopt.
On completion of this practical demonstration of the face milling of vertical
and tilted surfaces, the unit concludes with a brief summary reviewing the most
significant steps involved in the machining operations analyzed.
