This video unit presents the main techniques used in electric shielded-arc welding
using different types of coated electrode. In view of the complexity of the subject,
the unit has been divided into two parts.
AIM. To enable users to operate an electric shielded-arc welding
machine and to provide them with guidelines as to the choice of the most suitable
welding parameters in relation to the types of materials involved in the welds,
the type of electrode chosen and the work position.
TOPICS. The video cassette begins with a brief description of the
welding station consisting of the welding bench, welding machine, connection cables
and accessory fixtures.
The most important characteristics of shieldel-arc welding machines are then described
and illustrated by means of graphic animations to make them more easily understandable.
After describing the optimal field of application of this welding technique, the
unit begins to present a series of live sequences designed to illustrate the quality
of weld beads and the difficulties encountered in performing these welding operations
using, variously, basic, rutilic, acidic, cellulosic and anodic coated electrodes.
At this point, the video unit presents a series of welding operations which differ
in terms of the type of material welded (ordinary, steel, stainless steel, cast
iron, aluminium...); the type of electrode used; the position of the weld (flat,
groove, upward vertical fillet, downward vertical filler...); and number of beading
passes.
The video cassette concludes with a rapid survey of the main types of welding
defect with identification of their causes.
